Rough Draft Solutions - website copy

Writing is hard. Writing for your website is tortuous. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Earlier this week, we talked about WHY it’s hard to write website copy for your business. There are SO. MANY. REASONS. And yes, one of the ways to make writing for your website easier is to hire a copywriter (hello, hi, it’s me;) ). But you know what? You can also DIY your website copy. You can (and will) get better the more you write.

If getting started is the hardest part of writing your website copy, here are 3 tips that will make it easier:

1️⃣ Before you start writing, identify your goal for that specific page. Do you want the visitor to buy a digital product? Download a freebie? Or fill out your contact form? Knowing your goal will help you keep your copy focused.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣ Create a rough outline. Your outline should include things: What problem is my customer experiencing? What solution am I offering? What evidence do I have that will build credibility? Keep your outline short and sweet. I prefer to outline the day before I plan to write - that way, I already know what I am writing when I sit down.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣ Take the pressure off and allow writing to be simple. Writing can intimidate us because we think we need to reinvent the wheel. We feel as if we need to think of the perfect way to say something to make the sale. No. Speak directly to your customer, offer solutions, validate their concerns, and tell them what to do next. Clarity will help you far more than fancy words.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I get it. As a business owner, you love what you do, but your website feels too important, and for some reason, whenever you sit down to write, you forget everything that makes your business special. The key is to just start writing. We will worry about editing later!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
